Broken glass in blender?

I was making some hummus and stopped blending to stir, tapped the spoon on the top of the glass blender to get the excess off and noticed that part was chipped, so I dumped out the hummus 'cause I didn't want to risk eating the broken glass and going to the hospital. I didn't notice the chip until now and since it is an old blender it could have been there before. How do I make sure all the broken microscopic pieces of glass are out before I use it again?
